BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team earned a win over the Medaille College Mavericks on Saturday. The Wildcats scored 20 or more goals for the sixth consecutive game this season, earning their sixth win of the season 24-16 over the Mavericks. The Wildcats are now 4-0 in NEAC play and are tied for first place with Keuka and Morrisville.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first half of the game was an epic scoring fest. The teams combined for 28 total goals with SUNY Poly holding a slim lead at the end of the first half. It was a game of runs; the first was by Medaille who went on a four-goal scoring run from the 24th minute to the 20th minute. The Wildcats would answer back with 20 minutes to go in the half with a five-goal run of their own. Medaille would score six of the next seven goals to take an 11 to 9 lead with eight minutes left in the first. SUNY Poly finished out the half strong, scoring seven of the last eight goals in the half. The Wildcats and Mavericks traded goal-for-goal early in the second half, but a big push down the stretch led to a five-goal run by the Wildcats ultimately secured the eighth goal win.

The Wildcats had an outstanding four players score seven or more points in the game. Key factors for the Wildcats were a large margin of victory in the draw control circle where they won 13 more draws than the Mavericks and shots on goal where they had eight more than Medaille

NOTABLES:

• Emily Somes (Elbridge, N.Y.)  led the Wildcats scoring a career-high 10 points on eight goals and two assists. Somes also had two caused turnovers and three ground balls in the Wildcat win.

• Kayla Prosinski (Endwell, N.Y.) had five goals and three assists for the Wildcats. She had eight draw controls, two ground balls, and forced a game-high three turnovers.

• Samantha Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) played outstanding on the draw for the Wildcats. She had a career-best 17 draw controls in the game which is good for second-best all-time in a single game.. She also scored seven points on six goals and an assist.

• Jennifer Maxam (Clinton, N.Y.) also scored seven points in the game for the Wildcats. She had three assists and four goals for the 'Cats.

• SUNY Poly also got point production from Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Alexis Eipp (Broadalbin, N.Y.) who had a point each. Pichura scored her point on a goal in the first half. Eipp's point was on an assist in the first half.

• Alicia Lugo (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) earned her sixth win in goal for the Wildcats. She made 12 saves on 28 shots faced.

• Claire Purdy led the scoring for the Mavericks. She had seven points on three goals and four assists

• Emma Campagnia had six points on three goals and three assists for Medaille.

• Brianna Phillips was on the losing end of the decision in goal for Medaille. She made 12 saves on 36 shots faced. She is now 5-5 this season

The Wildcats will take on the Hilbert College Hawks on Sunday, April 7th at 12:00 PM. The game will take place at Hilbert College in Hamburg New York. The Wildcats are 3-1 all-time against the Hawks. A win in tomorrow's game would be the Wildcats first on Hilbert's home field.
