CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Nearly two minutes into sudden-victory overtime, Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) cut through Cazeonvia's defensive zone and caught a perfectly timed feed from teammate Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS). The sophomore wasted no time with the ball, instantly firing a shot into the back of the net. With the game-winning goal, the Wildcats took down top-seeded Cazenovia by a score of 7-6 to improve to 11-3 on the season and 8-1 in NEAC play.

The first half of the game saw extremely strong defensive play with only four goals scored between the two teams. It took 17 minutes for the home team to strike first and take the 1-0 lead. SUNY Poly answered back a minute and a half later when Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage HS) finished a feed from Alexandria Dodge (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) to tie the game at 1-1. Cazenovia scored two goals over the final 11 minutes to take the 3-1 lead at half.

Like the first half, Cazenovia struck first in the second, this time ten minutes in to extend their lead to 4-1. Serota answered again off a feed from Ames to cut the home team's lead in half. The two teams exchanged goals over the next eight minutes until Caz scored with 3:22 to play to take a 6-4 lead. Cazenovia won the next draw and set up what looked to be the game-ending stall, but ended up turning the ball over with just over a minute to play.

After a successful clear, Ames was able to get the ball to Beha, who was streaking down the left side of the field. The midfielder drew a penalty to set her up for a free position shot. Beha made good on her attempt to get Poly within one. SUNY Poly controlled the next draw and set up their offense with 57 seconds to play. Once again, Beha found herself with the ball and drove to goal from behind the crease. The junior found the back of the net to force overtime with 11 seconds to play.

Beha finished with three goals and an assist for a total of four points. Ames finished with three points while Serota added two goals. Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y. / Clinton HS) rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own.

Hope Cerasuolo had another standout day on defense with a team-high six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen HS) got the win in goal, turning away four shots.

The Wildcats will return to action next weekend when they participate in the NEAC Tournament Finals. With the win today, SUNY Poly finds themselves in a three-way tie with Cazenovia and Morrisville. Poly will wait to hear what their seed will be after the tie-breakers are determined.
