WLAX: Wildcats Top Chargers to Open Conference Play

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (4-1, 1-0 NEAC) opened conference play on Friday evening with a convincing win over Lancaster Bible (4-4, 0-1 NEAC). The Wildcats scored a team record in goals with a 25-8 win over the Chargers.

Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) had an impressive day, recording five goals and five assists. This is the second time this season that the sophomore has recorded 10 points to lead the team.

The Wildcats wasted no time getting on the board as Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili HS) scored just 41 seconds into the game. The home team showed no signs of slowing down, tallying 16 more goals throughout the half. Six different scorers recorded goals in the first half, five of which scored multiple.

The home team came out of the break with a 17-6 lead and scored eight more throughout the stanza. Defenders Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown HS) and Tierney McGlynn (Watevliet, N.Y. / Watervliet HS) added goals in the second half to bring the team total up to eight scorers.

Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) scored six goals and dished out two assists for her season-high of eight points. Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie HS) and Marconi each finished with four points and Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage HS) and McGylnn each added three. Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y. / Clinton HS) rounded out the scoring with two goals of her own.

Serota and Beha combined for a phenomenal day on the draw. The two were responsible for 16 of 22 draws with Serota recording nine for a new career-high.

Cerasuolo led the defense with three ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls a piece.

The Wildcats will continue conference action tomorrow when they host the College of St. Elizabeth at 3:00.
