Five Wildcats Named to All-Conference Team; McGlynn Named Defensive Player of the Year

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team had five players named all-conference on Wednesday, including a program-best 4 players named to the All-NEAC 1st Team.

In addition, Wildcat junior Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) was named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Below is an excerpt regarding McGlynn from the NEAC website:

"The NEAC Defensive Player of the Year honor went to SUNY Polytechnic Institute junior Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y.) after an excellent season for the Wildcats.  The defender caused the second-most turnovers in the conference with 29 and scooped up the sixth-most groundballs with 51 while starting in all 15 Wildcat contests this season.  McGlynn caused at least one turnover in all but one contest and recorded a groundball in every game in addition to adding 13 goals and 34 draw controls on the year, which helped the Wildcats post their most wins in program history with nine, including their first-ever playoff victory Tuesday.  McGlynn, who garnered a NEAC Defensive Player of the Week selection, also made the jump to the All-Conference First Team after being a Third Team selection last year."

Joining McGlynn on the All-NEAC 1st Team were junior Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage), sophomore Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro), and freshman Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown).

Serota and Cerasuolo each had outstanding seasons in their first years with the Wildcat program. Serota, a junior transfer, led SUNY Poly in both points and goals, finishing 5th in the conference in goals and tied for 7th in assists. She has scored in 11 consecutive contests.

As for Cerasuolo, the rookie developed into one of the team's most dependable players, and really expanded her role on offense, scoring in each of the team's final 5 games. She was the best scorer of the team's defenders with 17 goals, and finished second on the team in groundballs and caused turnovers behind only McGlynn.

Finally, the sophomore Krysta Beha had an outstanding rebound season to make the All-Conference 1st Team. After being on pace to set multiple records in her rookie season a year ago, the midfielder suffered a season-ending injury that had her rehabbing all off-season, right up to and through the start of the 2015 season. Beha persevered, finishing tied for 11th in the conference in goals despite missing another 4 games in the middle of the year due to nagging injuries. She also led the NEAC in draw controls with 67.

The final all-conference selection for the Wildcats went to rookie Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili), who scored 19 goals, showcasing a great understanding of the game for such a young player and being rewarded with a selection to the All-NEAC 2nd Team.
