Wildcat Comeback Dashed By Late Bard Goal

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team dropped to 5-5 on Tuesday evening after a tough loss at home to Bard (2-9) 10-9.

Freshman Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown) led the way for SUNY Poly with three goals. The defender also recorded seven ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover.

The Raptors started things off, scoring four of the first five goals of the game. Cerasuolo broke through with just under 10 minutes to play to cut Bard's lead to 4-2. The Johnstown native would strike again at the end of the half after beautifully controlling a feed from Filipa Exposta (Lisbon, Portugal / Amer. Int'l School of Mozambique) to cut the visitors' lead to 6-4.

The home team opened the second stanza with two goals from Cerasuolo and Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage). SUNY Poly scored three of the next five to take a 9-8 advantage with 13:57 to play. Both teams would remain scoreless for the next 13 minutes until Bard evened things up on a fast-break goal. With 19 seconds remaining, Joanna Regan was awarded a free position shot which resulted in the game-winner.

Regan led the way for Bard with a game-high six goals and 11 ground balls.

Ames and Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili) each finished with two goals. Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) and Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) each added a goal to round out the scoring for the Wildcats.

Jennifer Bullock (Bronx, N.Y. / NYC Museum) had an outstanding game on defense recording five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

SUNY Poly returns to action this weekend at Keuka for a critical conference matchup.
