Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up Win at Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team beat Maritime (2-3) on the road Thursday afternoon, 13-7. With the win the Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season.

Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y / Whitesboro) picked up right where she left off, putting away the first goal of the game. Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage) scored her first career goal three minutes later to put the Wildcats up 2-0.

Maritime scored one of their own to make it 2-1; this would be the last for either team over the next 10 minutes. Beha ended the drought with just under 15 minutes to go in the half. The Wildcats would record five more before the break to go into halftime with an 8-3 advantage.

Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) started off the second half scoring for the Wildcats just over three mintues in. SUNY Poly would add four more goals throughout the half, but Maritime wouldn't go away quietly as they scored four of their own.

Beha had another impressive game recording four goals, seven ground balls, seven draw controls, and three caused turnovers, all team-highs. Ames rounded out her day with three points on a goal and two assists. Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) and Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili) each added two goals, while DiPiazza contributed four points on three goals and an assist.

Cassidy Thompson (Weedsport, N.Y. / Weedsport) got the win in goal with nine saves.

SUNY Poly returns to action this Saturday in a home matchup with Canton at 3:00.
