Wildcats Drop Heartbreaker to Cazenovia (Friday)

CAZENOVIA, N.Y.- The SUNYIT Women's Lacrosse team (5-4, 4-2 NEAC) dropped a tough loss to NEAC rival Cazenovia College (6-6, 4-2 NEAC) Friday by the score of 13-12.

The Wildcats quickly found themselves in an 3-0 hole as Cazenovia found the net early. The Wildcats answered swiftly however as they countered with three goals of their own. After the teams exchanged goals, the half ended on yet another 3-0 Cazenovia run, as the Wildcats went into the half trailing 7-5.

The halftime adjustments appeared to go all in favor of the Wildcats as they netted four straight goals to start the second half and took a 9-7 lead just 7 minutes in. Cazenovia came back however as they chipped away to take a 13-10 lead with just under 9 minutes remaining. The Wildcats made a push late in the game as a Laura Tolbert (Clay, N.Y./ Cicero-North Syracuse)  goal put them within one with 5 minutes to go but they were unable to complete the comeback, ultimately falling 13-12.

The Wildcats attack was led by Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y./ Colonie) who netted 5 goals to go along with an assist as well as Jenna Lashua (Heuvelton, N.Y./ Heuvelton) who tallied 4 goals in the contest.

Kaitlin Sheppard led the Cazenovia attack with 4 goals and 2 assists to lead her team.

The Wildcats are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Morrisville for a 7:00 pm NEAC battle.
