WBB: Turk Leads Wildcats to 65-54 Victory, Named to All-Tournament Team.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's basketball defeated Baruch College on Saturday afternoon 65-54. Alivia Turk led the way for the Wildcats, recording 20 points and 12 rebounds. For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament team.  

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Wildcats raced out to a 13-5 lead on Saturday afternoon, led by points from Patricia Vanlue, Alysa Jackson, Alivia Turk, and Kelsey Meca. Mia Castillo would score the next 8 points for the Bearcats to even the score at 13-13. Castillo would finish with a game-high 25 points. A Patricia Vanlue layup and Kelsey Meca three-pointer to end the quarter would give the Wildcats an 18-13 lead.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats would continue their strong offensive efforts, and extend their lead to 31-21 with 3:39 to play in the half. After an Amanda Sweet layup with 1:05 to play, the Wildcats would push their lead to 40-25. That would conclude the scoring for the half, and the Wildcats would take that lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Bearcats refused to go away and would win the quarter 20-11. The run would cut the Wildcats lead to 51-45 heading into the fourth quarter. Alysa Jackson had two layups to open the quarter to help extend the Wildcats lead to 55-45. Following suit, Alivia Turk scored the next seven points and the Wildcats would have a 62:45 with 3:15 to play. The tough defense from the Wildcats held the Bearcats scoreless for the first seven minutes before Angele Bacarella cut the lead to 62-47. Despite a late push from the Bearcats, the Wildcats would hold on for the 65-54 victory.

 

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, January 5th as they head to Eastern Nazarene for a North Atlantic Conference contest. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
