WBB: Second Half Push Not Enough As Wildcats Drop Road Game To Utica.

UTICA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's basketball team was defeated by Utica University 50-45 on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 0-4 on the season. Alysa Jackson led the way for the Wildcats with 16 points.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In a battle of the cross-town rivals, the Pioneers would get off to a solid start, leading 12-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers would start the game on a 12-4 run before an Amanda Sweet layup with :07 seconds remaining in the quarter gave the Wildcats some momentum going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Alivia Turk would lead the way for the Wildcats, knocking down key free-throws and grabbing rebounds to help her team get back into the game. She would finish with a double-double, recording 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Pioneers would take a 25-18 lead heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Wildcats would go on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 30 after a jump shot from Alivia Turk and multiple baskets from Alysa Jackson. The Pioneers would remain resilient, however, and would take a 38-25 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams continued to exchange baskets, but the Wildcats would never be able to tie the game. Krissy Geraci would make two key free throws for the Pioneers to make it a two-possession game with :25 seconds remaining. The scoring would stop there and the Pioneers would hold on for the 50-45 victory.

 

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow against SUNY Morrisville for their first North Atlantic Conference game of the year.
