Lady Wildcats Cruise Past Wilson to Begin New Year

CHAMBERSBURG, PA – The SUNYIT women's basketball team opened the New Year with a bang, cruising past NEAC rival Wilson College 67-39 Wednesday.  The Wildcats, winners of five straight, remained undefeated in conference play at 6-0 and are 7-1 overall.  Wilson fell to 1-8 in the NEAC and 2-9 overall.

The Wildcats dominated the contest, quickly building a double-digit lead in the first half and never looking back. SUNYIT held Wilson to 27 percent shooting from the floor and out-rebounded the Phoenix 50-26 while having ten players score at least two points.

Senior Tamara Williams (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) went 6-of-11 from the field and scored a team-best 14 points in just 17 minutes of action, while fellow classmate Taylor Topping (Bronx, NY/Preston) and sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each scored 10 points.  Sophomore Ashley Schmidt (Camden, NY/Camden) and freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) both grabbed seven rebounds, while junior Sarah Couvillon (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) recorded a game-best three blocks.

The Wildcats will look to continue their winning ways during a pair of NEAC contests at the Campus Center Gym this weekend.  They will first take on Gallaudet University at 1:00 pm on Saturday before squaring off against Penn State Harrisburg at noon on Sunday.
