WILLIAMSPORT, PA. -  The SUNY Poly softball team split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference games with Penn College on Saturday. SUNY Poly won the first game 2-1 but lost game two 4 - 2. Both games were very close with great pitching and timely hitting. The Wildcats are now 4-12 this season with a 1-3 record in NEAC play.

GAME ONE:

The SUNY Poly Wildcats earned an extra-innings win over Penn College in game one of the Wildcats doubleheader.  Penn College took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Taylor Krow RBI single that drove in Morgan Heritage. The Wildcats would strike back in the top of the fourth, tying the game up on an RBI double by Bailey Wood (Preston Hollow, N.Y.). An RBI fielder's choice would be the difference-maker in the game. In the top of the eighth inning, Kali Maggiolino (Whitesboro, N.Y.) scored on a Melissa Barber (Nassau, N.Y.) fielder's choice to win the game.

NOTABLES:

• Kayla Maiolo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) threw a great game to the Wildcats. She allowed just five hits and one earned run while striking out three in eight innings. She is now 2-5 this season.

• Bailey Wood had the lone extra-base hit for the Wildcats. She drove in a run on an RBI double in the fourth.

• Melissa Barber went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored for the Wildcats. She also had the game-winning RBI.

• Kali Maggiolino went 1-3 with a run scored and the Wildcats lone stolen base in the game.

• Morgan Heritage was the losing pitcher in the game for Penn college. She threw eight innings allowing two earned runs while striking out six.

• Taylor Crowe was the only batter with multiple hits in the game. She went 2-4 for Penn College with an RBI. It was the only RBI of the game for Penn College.

GAME TWO:

Game two was another close one between the Wildcats and Penn College. SUNY Poly took an early 2-0 lead after Melissa Barber drove in a run in the third and Jordan Penoyer (Sherrill, N.Y.) had an RBI single in the fourth. Penn College would have a big bottom of the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Kylie Shriner had a two-RBI double in the inning and Gillian Sinnott drove in a run on a single to take the lead. Penn College would add an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth inning to seal the deal on the 4-2 win.

NOTABLES:

• Melissa Barber went 2-3 with two singles in the game and drove in an RBI. She was 3-6 on the day with two RBIs.

• Jordan Penoyer drove in the other run for the Wildcats. She went 1-3 with a single.

• Taylor Hines (Mechanicville, N.Y.), Bailee Haddad (Frankfort, N.Y.), and Bailey Wood all had hit in the game.

• Kali Maggiolino had a stolen base in the game. She went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored.

• Ashleigh Johnson (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) was on the losing side of the decision for the Wildcats. She threw five innings and allowed three earned runs. She struck out one batter and walked one batter.

• Kylie Schreiner went 2-4 for Penn College, drove in two RBIs, and scored a run. One of her hits was double.

• Six other Penn College hitters recorded hits in the game.

• Kyla Banner improved her season record to 3-2 with a solid seven-inning performance on the mound. She allowed two earned runs, struck out four batters, and allowed six hits.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will take on Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 7th. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 PM first pitch. Lancaster Bible is currently 2-4 in NEAC play this season with wins over St. Elizabeth and SUNY Cobleskill this season.
