Wildcats Swept by Nittany Lions, Bridgewater on First Day of Myrtle Beach Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The SUNY Polytechnic Softball Team (0-2) shook the rust off on Monday with their first game action of the 2015 season. In their first chance on the diamond the team fell to the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Harrisburg by a score of 11 to 1 in five innings, and were bested by the state of Virginia's Bridgewater College in the afternoon, 5-1.

GAME ONE:

The Nittany Lions used a pair of 4-run innings to run away with the first game, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to end the game via NCAA Softball's 8-run rule (if a team is ahead by 8 runs or more after the trailing team's at-bat in the 5th inning, the game is called).

Harrisburg banged out 19 hits in the game, with leadoff hitter Seyfert going a perfect 4-for-4. She wasn't the only one, as Nittany Lion hurler Hartman also finished 4-for-4 with 3 RBI. She surrendered just one run on the mound in 5 inning of work, scattering 4 Wildcats hits.

Abby Black led the way for SUNY Poly, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Fallon Reinold started the game on the mound, and Bridget Ashmore came in to throw the last 2 and 2/3 innings. Reinold notched the team's only extra-base hit, a double.

GAME TWO:

SUNY Poly's offensive struggles continued in the afternoon, as the 'Cats managed just 2 hits in a 5-1 loss to Bridgewater. Brianna Cox earned the win for Bridgewater, going 6 innings with 7 strikeouts.

SUNY Poly's only run came in the third inning, as a fielder's choice by Reinold allowed Angela Bartlett to score. The play tied the game at 1-1, but Bridgewater responded with three runs in the bottom half of the winning to pull ahead once again.
