Lauren Marleau ’13 Named SUNY Poly Softball Coach

MARCY, N.Y. – Former SUNY Poly slugger Lauren Marleau '13 has been tabbed to take over the same team she starred for over a brilliant four-year career as a Wildcat.

SUNY Poly Athletics made the announcement earlier in the week that Marleau, who was a four-year starter for the Wildcats at catcher and an assistant coach for the team last year, will take over for her former coach and boss Jessica Skelton. Skelton will now focus on her other two positions at the helm of the women's basketball and women's cross country programs.

Marleau's work behind the plate for the Wildcats helped launch the program to its current place as one of the premier programs in the NEAC. She was a three-time all-conference selection and was twice named the team's Most Outstanding Player at the end-of-year SUNY Poly Athletics Award Ceremony.

Marleau was a two-year captain for Wildcat softball and also played on the SUNY Poly Women's Basketball Team. She graduated in May of 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.

"Lauren was a standout softball player for the Wildcats and we're excited to see her take the reins of one of our best programs," said SUNY Poly Athletic Director Kevin Grimmer on the hiring.

"Lauren has done a great job as an assistant coach and we should expect great things for our women's softball team."

The SUNY Poly Softball Team is coming off a 19-16 season that included an improbable run to the NEAC Tournament Final in May. The team will head to South Carolina in early March to kick off the 2015 season.
