Down to Final At-Bat, Back-to-Back Homers Lift Wildcats Over Cazenovia in Game 1 of Doubleheader Sweep

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – A pair of shots in the top of the 7th inning by Krista Pristera (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford) and Jessica Patterelli (Canastota, N.Y. / Canastota) propelled the Wildcats to a crucial NEAC win in game one of a doubleheader at Cazenovia  on Friday. The Wildcats went on to win the game 5-2, then dispensed with the theatrics in game two with a 13-0 victory in five innings.

Down 2-1 to the home team and down to their last out, junior Krista Pristera strode to the plate for SUNYIT and blasted a 3-run homer to put the Wildcats on top 4-2. As if that weren't drama enough, Patterelli then made it back-to-back-jacks for the visitors with a solo shot to put SUNYIT ahead 5-2. The Wildcats held Cazenovia in the bottom of the 7th to take the win.

In the second game SUNYIT left little to chance, exploding for 13 runs in just five innings. Patterelli again went deep, this time with a 3-run shot, but was outshone by catcher Danielle Witchley (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford), who clubbed a grand slam for her third homer of the year.

The Wildcats have now won 6 of their last 7, and will head to Morrisville State tomorrow for another NEAC North Division doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
