SUNYIT Seniors Honored as Wildcats Sweep Cazenovia; Brognano Homers Twice

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Softball Team (21-11, 15-5 NEAC) won their final two conference games on Sunday over Cazenovia, 5-2 and 8-2. With the wins the Wildcats earned the #2 seed in the NEAC North Division heading into the NEAC Conference Tournament next weekend. Full standings and tournament seedings are listed below.

In between the first and second games the Wildcats celebrated Senior Day, as SUNYIT seniors Erica Hovey (Dexter, N.Y. / Jefferson CC), Tiffany Troilo (Rye Brook, N.Y. / Blind Brook), Nicolette Kennedy (Yonkers, N.Y. / Good Counsel Acad.), Lauren Marleau (Prospect, N.Y. / Holland Patent), and Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y. / RFA) were honored for their contributions to SUNYIT Athletics.

Brognano certainly played to the moment, finishing the day a combined 6-for-7 with 2 home runs, 3 doubles, and 4 RBI's.

Fellow senior Lauren Marleau (Prospect, N.Y. / Holland Patent) also had a big day, ripping three base hits over the two games while playing her usual great defense behind the plate, even making a great throw to pick off a runner at third base in the day's second game.

All of SUNYIT's seniors contributed on the day, in fact, as Kennedy recorded 2 RBI's in game one, Troilo ripped a base hit in game two, and Hovey picked up her 13th win on the mound, going the distance in SUNYIT's 5-2 game one win.

The Wildcats will play their final regular season games on Wednesday as they host Utica College in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 pm. After that, SUNYIT will head to NEAC Tournament Host Penn St.-Berks on Friday for a 2 pm match up with South Division #3 seed Penn St.-Abington.
