Softball Sweeps Wells at Home

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Softball Team (15-9, 9-3 NEAC) swept Wells at home on Tuesday, winning 5-1 in the first game before exploding with a 15-0 victory in the second.

GAME 1: SUNYIT 5, WELLS 1

Nicolette Kennedy (Yonkers, N.Y. / Good Counsel Acad.) led the way for the Wildcats, going 2-for-2 with a pair of triples while knocking in a game-high 3 runs.

On the mound Erica Hovey (Dexter, N.Y. / Jefferson CC) surrendered a run in the first but was flawless after that, striking out 6 in her 6 innings of work. Coming on to close things out for SUNYIT was Bridget Ashmore (New Hartford, NY / New Hartford), who came on in the 7th, striking out two.

GAME 2: SUNYIT 15, WELLS 0

In game two the SUNYIT offense woke up, banging out 17 hits in just 5 innings en route to the 15-0 victory. The 1-4 batters in the SUNYIT lineup combined to go 11-for-15 with 10 RBI's. Lefthander Fallon Reinold (Holland Patent, N.Y. / Holland Patent) led the way, going 3-for-4 with a triple and a whopping 5 RBI's.

SUNYIT will be back in action tomorrow with another home doubleheader. Game time is set for 3:00 pm, as the Wildcats take on SUNY Cobleskill.
