COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team swept a pair of one run decisions from North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) North Division leading SUNYIT on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 2-1 and 6-5 at Fighting Tiger Park. With the victories the Fighting Tigers improve to 10-8 overall with a 6-2 in NEAC action while the Wildcats fall to 10-6 overall including a 4-2 record in league play. With the sweep Cobleskill moves into first place in the NEAC North Division.

In the opener the Fighting Tigers led 1-0 in the top of the seventh inning when Wildcat sophomore third baseman Lisbania Guzman, New Hartford, N.Y., New Hartford High School, looped a soft Texas league single down the rightfield line with two outs scoring senior shortstop Lyndsey Brognano, Rome, N.Y., Rome Free Academy, from second base to tie the game at 1-1.

However the tie score would not last long as in the bottom of the frame Cobleskill sophomore Mattea Bagley, Salisbury, Vt., Middlebury High School, hit a deep fly down the right field line that Wildcat senior right fielder Tiffani Troilo, Rye Brook, N.Y., Blind Brook High School, misplayed in the bright sunshine. As Bagley reached third base on the error the SUNYIT relay throw found its way into leftfield and Bagley scampered home with a walk-off four base error to decide the issue.

Sophomore pitcher Brianne Gray, Hornell, N.Y., Hornell High School, battled throughout the contest to keep the Wildcat offense in check scattering nine hits through seven innings of work allowing one earned run on the day. Gray once again demonstrated good control in the win striking out two while walking no one.

In the nightcap the Fighting Tigers led 4-1 going into the top of the sixth inning when the Wildcats struck for four runs highlighted by a two-run double by Tiffany Troilo and an RBI double by Lindsey Brognano which gave the visitors from Utica, N.Y. a 5-4 advantage

However the home half of the sixth Cobleskill tied the game when designated hitter Hannah Milligan, Pavilion, N.Y., Pavilion High School, doubled to lead-off the inning followed by an intentional walk to freshman catcher Madeline DeMilio, Valhalla, N.Y., Valhalla High School, which was followed by a run scoring single by freshman center fielder Michaela Schuyler, Fort Plain, N.Y., Fort Plain High School, scoring freshman Melissa Pitzel, Yorktown, N.Y., Yorktown High School, who came in to run for Milligan. The Fighting Tigers then took the lead when junior second baseman Kelsey DeZalia, Slingerlands, N.Y. Voorheesville High School, singled home DeMilio for the lead at 6-5 and the eventual margin of victory.

Freshman pitcher Erin Wadsworth, Valatie, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, recorded the victory allowing three earned runs in seven innings of work striking our 10 while walking four on the afternoon.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Friday April 19 when they host York College from Queens, N.Y. for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. while the Wildcats will next travel to Aurora, N.Y. for face The Express of Wells College in NEAC play starting at 1:00 p.m.
