KEUKA PARK, NY – The SUNYIT softball team had its ten-game win streak snapped by NEAC rival Keuka College during a doubleheader Sunday, dropping game one 5-0 and game two 3-1.  The Wildcats are now 10-2 in the NEAC North Division and 14-5 overall, while Keuka improved to 6-0 overall, with all six wins being conference victories.

The Wildcats were held to just five hits in game one, all of which being singles.  Keuka got on the board early with a two-run single by Sara James in the first and added two more runs in the third on an RBI triple by James and a sacrifice fly by Sarah Fredericks.  An insurance run would be scored in the fourth for Keuka to secure the win for the Storm and for pitcher Allison Richter, who went the distance and had six strikeouts.

The Wildcats then suffered a heartbreaking loss in game two.  After four scoreless innings of play, SUNYIT took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored an unearned run after a fielding error by Keuka.  The Wildcats would unravel in the sixth, however, as Keuka scored three runs on RBI singles from Brooke Lovell and Jill Hart and on a wild pitch that allowed Katie Evangelista to score.  SUNYIT could not recover, recording three quick outs in the seventh to suffer the sweep.

Sophomore Lauren Marleau (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) finished 2-for-4 with a double, with senior Meaghan McGurn (Slingerlands, NY/Hudson Valley CC) going 2-for-2 with a walk at the plate while striking out four on the mound.

Fredicks was 2-for-3 with a double for Keuka, while Danielle Gravel picked up the win on the mound after tossing two relief innings of scoreless ball.

The Wildcats will look to rebound on Tuesday when they host local rival Utica College for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 pm.  Although the contest is considered a home game for the Lady Wildcats, it is scheduled to be played at Utica's Greenman Field, which, along with Herkimer County Community College's Generals Field, will be the site of all SUNYIT home games this season due to both the on-campus construction of the $20 million field house and renovations to the current Wildcat Softball Field.
