AURORA, NY – The SUNYIT softball team scored an astonishing 30 runs and had 28 RBI to set the program single-game records for both of those categories en route to a sweep of Wells College during a doubleheader Saturday, winning game one 10-6 and game two 30-4.  The Lady Wildcats have now won ten straight contests and remained a perfect 8-0 in the NEAC North while improving to 14-3 overall.  Wells fell to 0-10 overall.

The 30-run outing during game two broke the team record of 23 runs scored that was set during the 1998 season, while the 28 runs batted in broke last season's record of 21 RBI in one game.  The historic performance was a collective team effort, as every starter had at least one hit and one RBI, while there was also a total of seven doubles and two home runs.  Leading the way was junior Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville), who went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, a sacrifice bunt, six RBI and three runs scored.

Sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and five runs scored, while senior Amanda Myers (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.  Junior Kwanisha Jones (San Antonio, TX/Indian River) drove in four runs and scored four more, classmate Amanda Pratt (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base and junior Kim Tarasek (Lowville, NY/Lowville) had a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Meaghan McGurn (Slingerlands, NY/Hudson Valley CC) pitched a complete game and registered four strikeouts, while also drawing four walks at the plate and scoring three runs.  

The Wildcats also put 10 runs on the board in game one, with the two double-digit run outings giving SUNYIT a total of at least 10 runs in three straight contests and in six of their last seven.  McGurn hit a two-run home run in the first that highlighted a four-run inning for the Wildcats, and another four runs would be scored in the second to give SUNYIT an early 8-0 lead.

With the Wildcats up 10-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Wells would make it interesting by scoring four consecutive runs with two outs, but Vedder would strikeout the next batter to end the threat and secure the victory.  Vedder ended up with 11 strikeouts on the day, which is the third highest total in program history, while also driving in three runs at the plate.

Pratt finished 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and one run scored, Myers went 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored and Jones scored two runs and stole a base.  Sophomore Lauren Marleau (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) drove in a run and scored two more.

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on Keuka College in a rematch of last year's NEAC Championship series.  Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
