COBLESKILL, NY – SUNYIT sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) smashed three home runs and the Lady Wildcats scored a total of 30 runs as the SUNYIT softball team swept SUNY Cobleskill during a doubleheader Thursday, winning game one 14-0 and game two 16-0.  The Wildcats remained undefeated in NEAC North Division at 6-0 and extended their win streak to six games to improve to 10-3 overall.  Cobleskill dropped to 0-8 in the conference and 0-10 overall.

After a four-run first inning for the Wildcats in game one, Brognano would hit a three-run shot during a five-run third inning that put the Wildcats up 9-0 and essentially sealed the victory.  Brognano would finish 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) also hit a home run to extend her already-established program record for career dingers and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.  She also picked up her fifth win of the season on the mound, going four innings and allowing three hits while striking out four batters.

Junior Amanda Pratt (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, while classmate Kim Tarasek (Lowville, NY/Lowville) went 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored.

Brognano would then tie her own program record for most runs batted in during one contest with seven in game two, highlighted by a grand slam and another three-run homer that both came during a 14-run fourth inning for SUNYIT in which the Wildcats went through their entire batting order twice.  The run total was a historic feat, as it is in a six-way tie for the eighth-most ever in one inning, according to the NCAA Division III softball record books.

Vedder finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while junior Bianca Brown (Utica, NY/Mohawk Valley CC) drove in two runs and scored two more.  Senior Meaghan McGurn (Slingerlands, NY/Hudson Valley CC) dominated both at the plate and on the mound, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while pitching a complete game four-hitter and registering three strikeouts for her fifth victory of the year.

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on NEAC foe Morrisville State for a doubleheader.  Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
