CC: Acey leads Men Cross Country to 2nd place finish, LaPorte leads Women to a 3rd place finish at Charger Invitational

Lancaster, P.A. – The SUNY Poly men's and women's cross country team traveled to Pennsylvania to participate in the 8K/6K Charger Invitational hosted by fellow NEAC school Lancaster Bible College on Saturday.  The race featured 149 student-athletes representing eleven schools. Highlighting the teams' strong finishes were senior Joseph Acey and junior Rebecca LaPorte. The men finished with 65 points and had seven runners finish in the top 20. The women finished in 76 points and had four runners in the top 15. 

 

Men's Recap

Joseph Acey (Forestport, N.Y.) led the Wildcats' with a 12th place finish and a respectable time of 29:55. A minute behind was sophomore Christopher Bouchard (Latham, N.Y.), who placed 13th. The third Wildcat finisher was junior Riley Christopher (Clifton Park, N.Y.), who completed the race in 29:57 and placed 14th. Not far behind was junior Oliver Crain (Syracuse, N.Y.) who placed 15th with 29:59 and rounding out the top 5 finishers for SUNY Poly is seniorJohn Hohl (Webster, N.Y.) with 30:03 and a 16th place finish. 82 runners took place in the Men's 8K race.

 

Women's Recap

The women's team ran a good race and placed third. Rebecca LaPorte (New Hartford, N.Y) led SUNY Poly with an eighth place finish and ran the race in 27:16.  Senior Kiersten Albertson(Kirkville, N.Y.) had a top 10 finish for the Wildcats. She placed ninth with a time of 27:36. Sophomores Jalize Mejia-Perez (Bronx, N.Y.) and Kassidy Eng (Staten Island, N.Y.) along with freshman Leanna Oakes (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the Wildcats' top 5 finishing 14th, 15th and 31st respectively.

The Wildcats will be back in action this weekend when they take the trip to Hamilton College to participate in the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday, October 8th. The race is scheduled to start at 11:00AM.
