Men’s Cross Country Takes Home First Place at Wildcat Weekend Classic (8-Kilometer)

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Polytechnic Men's Cross Country Team won their second race of the season today behind strong performances from the entire scoring five runners. The Wildcats placed four runners in the top-10 overall, and accumulated just 31 team points, besting the second place MVCC Hawks by 10 points.

The Wildcats were led by Greg Bogdan (Broadalbin, N.Y. / Broadalbin-Perth). The rookie came in 2nd place overall, his highest finish of the year. His time of 27:59 made him one of only two runners to finish the 8-kilometer course in less than 28 minutes.

Following Bogdan was graduate student Jordan Sirtoli (West Winfield, N.Y. / Mount Markham), who continues to look strong after battling injuries earlier in the season. Sirtoli equaled his previous best finish, coming in third place overall with a time of 28 minutes, 11 seconds.

Senior and team captain Cody Russell (Fonda, N.Y. / Fonda) was next, finishing 5th with a time of 28:41.

The biggest surprise of the day, however, was the 9th place finish of sophomore Joseph Acey (Forestport, N.Y. / Adirondack). Acey came out of nowhere to break the top-10. The 9th place finish is a career-best for the young runner.

Rounding out the scoring five for the Wildcats was Oliver Crain (Syracuse, N.Y. / Corcoran) in 12th place, but Hunter Marshall and Andrew Jeselson weren't far behind, as the pair finished 13th and 15th respectively.

SUNY Poly will be on the road for the remainder of the season. They are scheduled for a week off, and will return to action on October 11th at the Hamilton Invitational. Race time is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
