Men’s Cross Country Runs Well in Preview of NCAA Regional

CASTILE, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Cross Country Team competed at the 35th Annual Geneseo Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, finishing 13th out of a field of 20 upper-tier teams.

The course is the same one that will host the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship on November 16th, a race several Wildcat runners will hope to qualify for.

Derek Struck (Knox, N.Y. / Berne-Knox-Westerlo) continued to put up low numbers for the Wildcats, turning in a time of 26:01 at the 8k race, good for 15th overall and in the 11th position for scoring purposes. While obviously it is difficult to compare times from different courses, Struck's finish is his fastest 8-kilometer time of the season so far, besting his 26:12 finish from the Yellowjacket Invite midway through September.

Behind Struck was stalwart senior Dylan Parry (Voorheesville, N.Y. / Voorheesville) who finished with a time of 27:18, good for 57th.

In third for the Wildcats was Christopher Wicks (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker), who finished 84th with a  time of 27:46. His performance caught the eye of Head Coach Bill Tylutki, who remarked that Wicks "had a super race."

The Wildcats will take a week off before heading to beautiful Geneva, N.Y., to compete in the CCOC Invitational at Seneca Lake State Park. Race time is scheduled for noon on Saturday, October 19th.
