Men's XC Runners-Up at NEAC Championship; 5 Runners Named All-Conference

COBLESKILL, N.Y. –  Following their efforts in the NEAC Championship over the weekend, seniors Robert Doss (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) and Chris Wicks (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Baker) were named to the NEAC All-Conference First Team on Saturday. Senior Steve Gagnier (Crogan, N.Y. / Beaver River Central), sophomore Dylan Parry (Voorheesville, N.Y. / Voorheesville Central), and freshman Cody Russell (Glen, N.Y. / Fonda-Fultonville Central) made Second Team.

With five runners making all-conference, the Wildcats trailed only tournament champion and host SUNY Cobleskill (7 selections).

Regarding the team's championship performance, Wildcat Coach Bill Tylutki had this to say:

"Cobleskill ran a great race on their home course – obviously we're disappointed we didn't win but I'm extremely proud of our team and the year we had."

The men placed 2nd out of 10 teams with a team score of 44 and an average time of 30 minutes, 17 seconds on the 8k course. They finished ahead of Morrisville State (81 points, 31:15) and behind Cobleskill (24 points, 29:27).

On the women's side, senior Bridget McMahon (Avoca, N.Y. / Avoca) led the way for SUNYIT with a time of 21:29, good for 16th place overall. For her efforts she was named to the NEAC All-Conference Third Team, the Wildcats only all-conference selection.

First-year Paige McCandless (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Edward R. Murrow) and sophomore Ivy Vasquez (Bronx, N.Y. / Preston) also turned in strong performances, placing 62nd and 63rd respectively.

The race in Cobleskill marked the end of the women's cross country season; the men will travel to host school Williams College for the ECAC Championships on Saturday, to be held at Mount Greylock High School. Information regarding the event can be found here.
