Men's Cross Country Finishes Ninth at Cobleskill Invitational, Women Place Eleventh

COBLESKILL, NY – The SUNYIT men's cross country team scored 257 points to finish in ninth place out of 18 teams at the SUNY Cobleskill Invitational this past Saturday, while the women finished in 11th place out of 13 teams with 295 points.

Senior Ryan Darling (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) was the top finisher for the men's team, crossing the end line at 31:15.55 to place 58th out of 167 runners.  Finishing directly behind him was senior Christopher Senez (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) in 59th place with a time of 31:16.21 and junior Robert Doss (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) in 60th place with a time of 31:16.57.  Rounding out the top Wildcat runners was freshman Christopher Wicks (Syracuse, NY/Baker), who finished in 84th place with a  time of 32:45.58, and junior David Culbertson (Rome, NY/Smithfield-Selma), who came in 91st place with a time of 33:13.46.

 RIT's Mike Kurvach took home first place with a time 27:34.73 to help lead his school to a first place finish with a score of 19 points.  SUNY Delhi came in second place with 64 points, followed by Utica College (88), Cobleskill (130) and Union College (158).

On the women's side, junior Bridget McMahon (Avoca, NY/Avoca Central) was the first Lady Wildcat to cross the finish line, coming in 70th place with a time of 23:12.47.  Finishing directly behind her was freshman Leah Senecal (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) with a time of 23:14.36, while senior Angela Gallo (West Leyden, NY/Adirondack Central) finished in 80th place with a time of 23:53.39.  Senior Susanna Tom (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) and sophomore Jessica Stanford (Bath, NY/Avoca Central) came in 81st and 82nd place, respectively, with Tom finishing at 23:57.81 and Stanford crossing the end line at 24:02.05.

Utica College's Katie Day took first place with a time of 18:51.69 and helped Utica finish first with 41 points.  RIT came in second with 53 points, followed by SUNY Delhi (87), Cobleskill (106) and Union (112).

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, September 18 when they travel to participate in the Cedar Crest Invitational.  The women's race will begin at 11:00 am, while the men's race will start at 12:00 pm.
