Men's Cross Country Takes Second Place at Fourth Annual Wildcat Invitational, Women Finish Third

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's cross country team scored 70 points to take second place out of 10 teams in the Fourth Annual Wildcat Invitational Saturday, while the women's team finished third out of nine teams with 119 points.

 

SUNYIT senior Chris Senez (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) paced SUNYIT with a sixth place finish out of 91 runners with a time of 21:00.6.  Junior Robert Doss (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) took eighth place with a time of 21:05.2, while freshman Christopher Wicks (Syracuse, NY/Baker) finished ninth with a time of 21:08.1.  Rounding out the top Wildcat runners was senior Ryan Darling (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) with a time of 21:22.8 to take 13th place and junior David Culbertson (Rome, NY/Smithfield-Selma) with a 34th place finish with a time of 23:00.9.

 

Eric Young of Hudson Valley Community College took first place individually with a time of 20:01.2 to lead his school to a first place finish overall with 68 points.  SUNY Canton finished behind the Wildcats in third place with 83 points, followed by Broome County Community College with 90 points and Hobart College with 128 points.

 

On the women's side, junior Bridget McMahon (Avoca, NY/Avoca Central) was the Lady Wildcats' top finisher, taking 13th place individually with a finish time of 22.58.  Freshman Leah Senecal (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) finished 16th with a time of 23:35.3, while junior Angela Gallo (West Leyden, NY/Adirondack Central) finished 21st with a time of 23:57.1.  Senior Susanna Tom (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) finished 34th with a time of 25:05 and sophomore Jessica Stanford (Bath, NY/Avoca Central) finished 35th with a time of 25:07.

Chelsea Socha of Keuka took first place individually with a meet-record time of 20:19.30.  William Smith College took first place overall with a total of 48 points, followed by SUNY Potsdam with 97 points and SUNYIT.  Rounding out the top five was Cazenovia College with 127 points and Broome County Community College with 132 points.

 

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, September 11 when they travel to participate in the SUNY Cobleskill Invitational.  The women's race will begin at 11:00 am, while the men's race will start at 11:45 am.
