Men's Swimming Finishes Regular Season with First Place Finish at Herkimer Invitational

HERKIMER, NY – The SUNYIT men's swimming team closed the regular season with a first place finish at the Herkimer County Community College Sprint Invitational Saturday. 

Freshman Jacob Ammons (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) led the way for the Wildcats, finishing first in both the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:44.25 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:47.36.  Freshman Chris Kassay (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) came in first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 0:53.66 and took second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.09, while fellow classmate Kory Parsons (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.88 and second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:24.03.

Additionally, the trio teamed up with freshman Gavin Craddock (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) to take first place in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:22.40.

The Wildcats finished the regular season with two first-place finishes and four top-five finishes in invitational competition, while being 3-1 in the NEAC and 4-2 overall in head-to-head matches.  They will now head to the NEAC Championships, with the three-day event being hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on February 18, 19 and 20.
