Men's and Women's Swimming Falls to Utica in Last Home Meet of the Season

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's and women's swimming teams were bested by local rival Utica College in their final home meet of the season, as the men fell 110-83 and the women fell 144-17 at the Campus Center Pool Friday night.

 

Freshman Jacob Ammons (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) had a solid outing for the men's team, finishing first in the 1000-yard Freestyle with a time of 11:28.18 and in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 5:33.17.  Freshman Chris Kassay (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) took first place in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 2:00.74 and second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 0:53.17, while fellow classmate Kory Parsons (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.48 and second place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:23.39.  The trio also teamed up with Gavin Craddock to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.33 and beating Utica's time by seven seconds.

 

On the women's side, junior Katie Schlagel (Baldwinsville, NY/Morrisville) racked up three second-place finishes on the night, including the 200-yard Freestyle (2:29.73), the 100-yard Butterfly (1:22.23), and the 500-yard Freestyle (7:07.25).

 

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to participate in the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational.  The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
