Men's and Women's Swimming Both Finish Sixth at Potsdam North Country Invitational

POTSDAM, NY – The SUNYIT men's and women's swimming teams both finished sixth at the two-day SUNY Potsdam North Country Invitational this past Friday and Saturday.

The men's squad posted 95 points on the weekend.  Freshman Jacob Ammons (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 1,650-yard Freestyle with a time of 18:43.02 and a tenth-place finish in both the 200-yard IM (2:18.78) and the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:35.28). Freshman Kory Parsons (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) also had a strong outing, placing 13th in the 200-yard Backstroke with a time of 2:28.03 and 16th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:28.01.  The duo also teamed up with freshmen Gavin Craddock (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) and Chris Kassay (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) to finish sixth in all three relays they participated in, including the 400-yard Medley (4:17.90), the 200-yard Freestyle (1:38.40) and the 400-yard Freestyle (3:40.03).

On the women's side, junior Katie Schlagel (Baldwinsville, NY/Morrisville) finished 12th in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:30.61, while placing 21st in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 2:37.69 and 24th in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 7:14.19.  Fellow classmate Bridget McMahon (Avoca, NY/Alfred State) placed 16th in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:55.14), 17th in the 200-yard Backstroke (3:37.68) and 18th in the 100-yard Freestyle (1:21.54).

The SUNY Oneonta men's and women's swimming teams both took first place at the Invitational, with the men scoring 450 points and the women scoring 511.5 points to secure the victories.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, December 3, when they host Utica College at 6:00 pm.
