Men's Swimming Goes 2-0 during Weekend Competition

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's swimming team remained undefeated in head-to-head competition, taking down Bard College at Simon's Rock 605-324 Friday and NEAC rival SUNY Cobleskill 160-40 Saturday to improve to 4-0 in dual meets this season. 

 

The Wildcats won nine out of the 11 individual races and both relay events against Bard.  Freshman Chris Kassay (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 0:25.23 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 0:56.24, while fellow classmate Kory Parsons (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) finished first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 0:30.59 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.68.  Sophomore Bryan Rawlings (Baldwinsville, NY/C. W. Baker) also won two events, finishing first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 0:33.34 and the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 0:28.36. 

 

Kassay helped lead the way against Cobleskill by winning three events, including the 200-yard freestyle (0:57.54), the 50-yard freestyle (0:25.70) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.50).  Freshman Jacob Ammons (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) also won three events, taking first place in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:36.58), the 200-yard IM (2:25.07) and the 50-yard freestyle (5:44.42).

 

On the women's side, junior Katie Schlagel (Baldwinsville, NY/Morrisville) won the 500-yard freestyle against Bard with a time of 7:33.39, as well as the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:26.94 and the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 0:36.52.  She went on to take second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:44.14 and in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:34.95 against Cobleskill.

 

The women fell to Bard 442-101 and to Cobleskill 145-19.

 

The women's team will be back in action this Friday when they square off against conference rival Saint Elizabeth at 6:00 pm, while both teams will square off against the NEAC's newest member Gallaudet University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
