Ammons, Schlagel Named NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week for Men's and Women's Swimming

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT freshman Jacob Ammons (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and junior Katie Schlagel (Baldwinsville, NY/Morrisville) have been selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Student-Athletes of the Week for the period ending October 24.

Both student-athletes earned their awards for their fantastic performances at the second annual Wildcat Invitational this past Saturday.  Ammons took first place in all four events that he participated in, including the 1,650-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke, the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay.  His final time of 18:59.53 in the 1650 free was a school record, and his time of 3:41.89 with the team of freshmen Kory Parsons (Rome, NY/Holland Patent), Gavin Craddock (New Paltz, NY/Holland Patent) and Chris Kassay (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) set the school record for the 400 freestyle relay.

Schlagel finished first in the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while setting the school record in the last-mentioned competition with a time of 1:31.10.

The men's team won the event with a total of 507 points, while the women finished third with 80 points.

The Wildcats will be back in action this Friday when they host NEAC rival Wells College at 6:00 pm.  The event will also mark the team's "Black Out" Day.
