MSOC: Wildcats Beat Delhi, Head to NAC Championship!

UTICA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly men's soccer team beat SUNY Delhi on Sunday evening 2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference West Division Championship. With the win, the Wildcats move to 12-5-1 on the season and will advance to the North Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday, November 4th against Husson University. The winner of the game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos end their season with a record of 11-3-4.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: In a similar theme to Saturday night, the visiting team would score first as the Broncos found the back of the net in the 9th minute on a header from Michael Williams Jr., assisted by Jaquan Williams. The Wildcats wouldn't take long to answer, however, as Colby Diamond scored the equalizer in the 23rd minute on an assist from Abus Mohamed Ali. The Wildcats continued to put constant pressure on Delhi, but couldn't score again in the first half, and the teams took a 1-1 tie going into halftime.  

In the second half, a pivotal point in the game came in the 48th minute when John Walsh received a red card for the Broncos, causing the Broncos to play man down for the remainder of the game. The Wildcats connected for a goal in the 82nd minute on a goal from Edgar Gomez, assisted by Edward Greene. The go-ahead goal would be the difference, as the Wildcats would hold on for a 2-1 victory.

With the win, the Wildcats move on to play Husson University in the North Atlantic Conference Championship with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
