MSOC: Wildcats Beat Morrisville in NAC Quarterfinals.

UTICA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly men's soccer team beat SUNY Morrisville on Saturday evening 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the North Atlantic Conference Championships. With the win, the Wildcats move to 11-5-1 on the season and will advance to the North Atlantic Conference West Division Championship on Sunday. The Mustangs end their season with a record of 4-10-4.  

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Mustangs would strike first on Saturday night, scoring a goal in the 40th minute on a goal from Javier Duarte. The Wildcats wouldn't take long to answer on their home turf, however, netting a goal in the 43rd minute on a goal from Thomas Nimineh, assisted by Edward Greene. The game would be tied 1-1 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Wildcats would continue to pepper shots on net early on, with Caleb Lucero knocking away scoring chances for the Mustangs. In the 66th minute, however, Jhonny Theze scored on a penalty kick for the Wildcats, which gave them a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Edward Greene would score a beautiful goal on an assist from Mo Ndow in the 70th minute. The Wildcats would keep the lead for good, holding on for a 3-1 victory.

With the win, the Wildcats move on to play SUNY Delhi in the North Atlantic Conference West Division Championship. The winner of that game will play the winner of the East Division for a chance to head to the NCAA Tournament.
