MSOC: Wildcats Drop Final Regular Season Game to Geneseo 2-1.

UTICA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly men's soccer team was defeated by SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday evening 2-1. The Wildcats would strike first, then would give up two unanswered goals in the loss. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 10-5-1 on the season. The Knights move to 9-5-3 on the season.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Wildcats would strike first in the non-conference matchup on a goal from Colby Diamond in the 4th minute. The rest of the first half would remain scoreless but would feature good rushes by both teams. The back line for both the Wildcats and the Knights would remain strong, and the Wildcats would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Knights would answer early in the second half on a goal from Tyler Lewandowski in the 51st minute, which was assisted by Owen Burke. Lewandowski wouldn't waste any more time as he would score again in the 57th minute, putting the Knights up 2-1. The Wildcats would have attacks on the net late in the game but weren't able to connect and the Knights would hold on 2-1 in the non-conference matchup.

The Wildcats will now shift their focus to the postseason, where they will be hosting the North Atlantic Conference West Division Championship for the second season in a row. SUNY Poly will face SUNY Morrisville on Saturday afternoon. SUNY Delhi and Eastern Nazarene will play after to determine who will be heading to the West Division finals on Sunday. The winner of the West Division will face the winner of the East Division in a winner-take-all matchup to determine who will be heading to the NCAA Tournament.

 

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, October 28th against SUNY Morrisville in the first round of the North Atlantic Conference tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
