MSOC: Bennett’s Three Points Help Wildcats Earn 2-1 Win at Husson.

BANGOR, MAINE - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Husson in an exciting matchup on Sunday. The Wildcats improved their record to 7-4-0 overall and maintained a perfect 5-0-0 record in conference play.

 

The first half showcased the Wildcats' offensive prowess as they took the lead with two goals. The opening goal came at the 12:29 mark, with Colby Diamond finding the back of the net, assisted by Payton Bennett.

 

Husson tied the game in the 38th minute when Gavin Carr capitalized on a scoring opportunity, with Pablo Maroto providing the assist.

 

The SUNY Poly attack continued to press, and it paid off in the 41st minute when Payton Bennett scored an unassisted goal, taking a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.

 

The second half saw both teams battling fiercely for control of the game, with neither side striking paydirt.

 

SUNY Poly's defense, led by goalkeeper Ryan Primus, held firm to secure the win. Primus made two crucial saves, ensuring that the Wildcats maintained their perfect record in NAC play.

 

Husson's Alex Rechsteiner, despite the loss, had an impressive performance with six saves to his name.

 

The match featured a total of 27 shots, with SUNY Poly holding an edge with 16 shots compared to Husson's 11.

The Wildcats will host MCLA on Wednesday, October 11th at Wildcat Field. The non-conference match-up is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
