MSOC: Wildcats Narrowly Beaten in a High Scoring Game at Utica.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team lost to cross-town rival Utica University on Saturday afternoon on a late goal in a game that saw seven goals find the back of the net. The Wildcats and the Pioneers were tied at three goals apiece heading into the final minutes of play, but a goal by Utica in the 84th minute was the game-winner giving the Pioneers a 4-3 win. The Wildcats are now 1-3 this season. Utica improved to 2-1.

Utica jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to a pair of goals by Byamungu Mugushu. A late first-half goal by SUNY Poly's Jhonny Theze on a penalty kick cut the Pioneer lead to one heading into the half.

The Wildcats opened up the second half with another penalty kick goal by Jhonny Theze to tie the game at two in the 51st minute. Byamungu Mugushu scored his third goal of the game and fourth of the season to give Utica a 3-2 lead.

SUNY Poly's Mo Ndow tied the game for the Wildcats in the 61st minute with an unassisted goal. Ndow made an incredible move to beat three Utica defenders creating space for a hard right-footed shot from the top right corner of the box. The shot was a corner-seeking missile, beating the diving keeper to the top left of the net. It was his first goal of the season.

The two teams played a scoreless 20 minutes between goals, but it was Utica's Brady Barnard who scored the game-winner on an unassisted goal to take a 4-3 lead which would hold.

Ryan Primus made nine saves in goal for the Wildcats. Foti Xidias was the winning keeper for Utica. He made six saves.
