DELHI, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats entered into Saturday's game at SUNY Delhi needing a win over the Broncos to take sole possession of first place in the NAC West Division. They got exactly what they hoped for, earning a 3-1 win on the road to improve to 4-0 in divisional play. The Broncos are now 3-1 in West Division play and are in second place.

The Wildcats scored the first goal of the game early to take a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats were fouled in the box, giving them a PK opportunity in the ninth minute. Matthew McCord took the PK and drilled his shot to the bottom left corner to give the Wildcats an edge.

The Wildcats would follow up that goal in the 48th minute when Payton Bennett found Abus Mohamed-Ali in the middle of the field with room to work. Abus took a deep shot from about five yards outside the box. The shot hit a Delhi Defender at the top of the box and went right into the goal past a diving keeper.

Delhi scored their first goal of the game in the 82nd minute when a two-on-one opportunity developed. Sinas Bouzikos beat one defender on the right side of the box and placed a cross into the middle of the box for Michael Williams Jr. who hit a soft roller under a diving SUY Poly keeper.

The Wildcats added an insurance goal late in the 88th minute to seal the win. A poorly placed goal kick led to the scoring opportunity for Festus Alonge who drilled a shot to the left post to beat the keeper who was out of position after the blunder.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Abus Mohamed-Ali, Matthew McCord, and Festus Alonge each had a goal in the game for the Wildcats.
  • Michael Williams Jr. had the Bronco's lone goal in the game.
  • Ryan Primus made three saves in goal and earned the win for SUNY Poly.
  • Jonathan Walch was on the losing side of the goalkeeper's decision. He made nine saves for the Broncos.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will host NVU-Johnson on Saturday, October 22nd at 12:00 PM. It is scheduled to be the Wildcat's Senior Day game. The contest will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
