MSOC: Wright Scores to Help Wildcats to a 1-1 Draw With Thomas in NAC Play.

WATERVILLE, Maine. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team played the Thomas College Terriers to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. Both of the game's goals were in the first half of play. The Wildcats are now 3-3-1 with a 1-0-1 NAC record.

 

THE GOALS:

The first goal of the game was scored by the Terriers in the 14th minute. Mustafa Najm made a nice pass to the foot of Joshua Joseph who made a great move past the defender and drilled a long-distance shot from five yards outside of the box to the upper right corner to beat the goalie. The goal was his fourth of the season.

 

The Wildcats would knot the game up at one in the 30th minute. Kevin Garcia made a long cross from the right edge of the box to Cole Wright in the left corner. Wright gathered and made space on his defender by attacking the goalpost. Wright threaded the needle, hitting a challenging narrow-angled shot across goal and into the net. The goal was Wright's second of the season.

 

The rest of the game was defensive in nature as the teams held each other in check for the remainder of regulation to end the game in a tie.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Cole Wright scored his second goal of the season for the Wildcats in the 30th minute.
  • Kevin Garcia had an assist in the game for the Wildcats. It was his first career point.
  • Ryan Primus made a save in goal in 90 minutes played. He earned the draw.
  • Joshua Joseph scored the lone goal for Thomas. It was his fourth of the season.
  • Mustafa Najm tallied his fourth assist of the season for Thomas.
  • Jayce Nielsen made three saves for the Terriers in goal.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will finish their trip to Maine with a NAC matchup with Maine Maritime in Castine. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
