MSOC: Wildcats Fall in Season Opener 1-0.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Wildcat men's soccer team opened their 2022 season on Thursday night on the road, losing a close game 1-0 to the University of St. Joseph Blue Jays. The lone goal of the game was scored in the closing minutes of the first half, but the Blue Jay's offensive unit had a significant edge in volume shooting that ultimately led to their one goal in the game. The Wildcats are now 0-1 this season. The Blue Jays are 1-0.

 

The lone goal in the game was scored late in the first half by St. Joseph. Charles Mputu found the back of the net on a cleaned-up rebound off of a shot by DeAnte Anderson. The goal was scored at 43:54.

 

NOTABLE STATS:

  • St. Joseph's Charles Mputu scored a goal in the game on the only shot that he took.
  • DeAnte Anderson had an assist in the game.
  • The Blue Jays out-shot the Wildcats 17-6 and had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • James D'Alessio made six saves in 90 minutes played for the Wildcats.
  • Edgar Gomez and Payton Bennett each took two shots on goal for Poly.
  • Matthew Goebel earned the win in goal for the Blue Jays. He made three saves.
