MSOC: Wildcats Notch Seventh Win of the Season 3-0 Over Alfred State.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team improved to 7-1-0 on the year with a 3-0 win over Alfred State. The Wildcats scored one goal at the end of the first half to take the lead and added two in the second for insurance. The Wildcat defense continued their strong play, allowing just two shots in the game.

 

THE GOALS: 

The Wildcat's first goal was scored in the 43rd minute by Abus Mohamed-Ali. Aboubacar Camara, who assisted on the goal, took a ball from outside the 18 down the left side of the box. Camara beat a defender and put a cross into the box to Mohamed-Ali with great position. Mohamed-Ali took one step and drove a shot to the back of the goal with a swift right-footed strike. 

 

The second goal was scored by Noah Fagnani. Fagnani took the ball on his foot 40 yards from the goal and drove it to the house. He beat three defenders with some fantastic footwork and ball control and netted a right-foot strike to the bottom right-hand corner. 

 

The third Wildcat goal was scored by Wakeley Banker off a well-placed corner kick by Payton Bennett. Bennett, the first year for the Wildcats took the corner from the right side and put it high and to the near side. Banker established an inside position on two defenders and headed it home for his fourth goal of the season. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Abus Mohamed-Ali scored his third goal of the season for the Wildcats. He now has 10 points in his first season. 

  • Noah Fagnani recorded his ninth and tenth points of the season on a goal in the 67th minute. He has five goals for the Wildcats. 

  • Wakeley Banker scored his fourth goal of the season, the seventh of his career. 

  • Payton Bennett had yet another assist for the Wildcats to follow up his three from last week. Bennett has seven points this season on a goal and five assists. 

  • Aboubacar Camara recorded his fourth assist of the season in the game. He now has six career points. 

  • Chase Coluccio recorded the win in goal for the Wildcats. The junior made two saves. He is now 3-0 this season. 

  • Thad Grierson made seven saves in goal for Alfred State but was on the losing side of the decision. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will continue their homestand with a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game against Cobleskill State. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The game will be streamed live on The SUNY Poly Sports Network.
