MSOC: Alonge's Two Goals Help SUNY Poly Advance to NEAC Final Four.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team traveled to rival Morrisville State in search of a North Eastern Athletic Coference (NEAC) Quarterfinal win on Tuesday. The Wildcats found what they were searching for in the form of a 3-1 upset win. The Wildcats struck three times against a Morrisville defence that held them scoreless just six days ago. 

Benjamin Alonge (Elmont, N.Y.) was the game's hero. The junior points leader for the Wildcats scored two goals in the second half to give his team the lead in the 68th minute and an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Both goals were assisted. The first was from Andrew Kessler (Bethlehem, N.Y.), the second was from Zach Joseph (Oneonta, N.Y.)

Gerry Thermil (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game for the Wildcats on a nice header set up off a cross by senior Grant Calogero (Utica, N.Y.). The goal was Thermil's third of the season. 

Morrisville's lone goal in the game was scored in the sixth minute by Stephen Oduro. Julian Rodriguez was credited with an assist on the play. 

Wildcat goal keeper Alexander Gigliotti (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made four saves in the game to earn the win.  Cody Gaines earned the loss, making two saves. 

The Wildcat offense took 14 shots in the game, landing five of them on goal. Morrisville took nine shots, landing five on goal. 

Up Next: 

The Wildcats will advance to the NEAC Final Four which will be hosted this weekend by the top remaining team at the conclusion of the four NEAC Quarterfinal games. Game times will be announced later this evening by the NEAC.
