MLAX: Wildcats Rally in Final Minute for Win Against Mariners

Castine, M.E. - Two late goals from Luke Taylor and Lyle Beeman powered the SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over the Maine Maritime Mariners. Luke Taylor led the Wildcats with five goals, while Joseph VanZandt made 14 saves in net. The win keeps the Wildcats undefeated in conference play and pushes their win streak to six games. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Wildcats struggled out of the gate, falling behind 4-1 by the end of the first quarter. Payton Thomas would score the Wildcats only goal of the quarter. 

Michael Baker scored the Wildcats' first goal of the second quarter, scoring a little over two minutes in. Thanks to Sultan Taj, Luke Taylor and Ryan Carroll, the Wildcats would score three of the next four goals, tying the matchup at 5-5 heading into halftime. 

It was a back-and-forth third quarter, starting with Taylor's second goal of the game to give the Wildcats an early one goal lead. The Mariners quickly responded, chaining together three goals to take back the lead 8-6. SUNY Poly would score two more before the end of the quarter, but after another Maine Maritime goal, would still be trailing 9-8. 

Another goal from Luke Taylor tied the game 9-9 in the fourth quarter. SUNY Poly and Maine Maritime would exchange a handful of goals, leading to a 12-11 score in favor of the Mariners. After a couple of scoreless minutes, Luke Taylor would come up big again for the Wildcats, scoring the game tying goal with 46 seconds left. Only 11 seconds later, SUNY Poly would take the lead on a shot from Lyle Beeman. The Wildcats would go on to win the game by a final score of 13-12.
