MLAX: Wildcats Top Golden Eagles, Andrew Maycock Reaches Career Milestone.

Long Island, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team put themselves back in the win column after defeating the Golden Eagles on the road. The Wildcats doubled the Golden Eagles in shots, leading to nine different Wildcats tallying a goal. Graduate student Andrew Maycock registered three points on the day, pushing his career total to 101. SUNY Poly won by a score of 13-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Wildcats offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first period. Liam Podszebka put SUNY Poly on the board first, scoring in less than a minute. From there, the Wildcats poured it on. Behind additional goals from Kai Hew, Payton Thomas and Sultan Taj, the Wildcats ended the first period up 7-1. 

SUNY Poly continued to control the game in the second period, adding two more goals. One of the goals came from graduate student Andrew Maycock, making it his second of the day and his 100th career point. The Wildcats would enter halftime up 9-3. 

The Golden Eagles put up a fight coming out of halftime, doing their best to narrow the lead by scoring three goals in the period. SUNY Poly, however, would maintain their lead with goals coming from Lyle Beeman and Michael Baker. The period would end with the Wildcats in control of an 11-6 lead. 

Luke Taylor would get himself in the goal column during the fourth period, scoring twice to help the Wildcats cruise to a 13-7 victory. The win moves SUNY Poly to 2-2 on the year, while the Golden Eagles would fall to 0-5. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

Andrew Maycock picked up three points (two goals and one assist), pushing his career point total to 101. 

Luke Taylor also registered three points (two goals and one assist). 

Payton Thomas scored two goals on a team-high seven shots. 

Sultan Taj netted two goals on four shots.

The Wildcats will stay on the road as they square off with the MCLA Trailblazers in conference play. That game is scheduled for March 27th, at 7:00 PM.
