MLAX: Wildcats Lose on the Road to New Paltz.

New Paltz, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team lost to SUNY New Paltz 16-9 on Wednesday. A strong first period from the Hawks was enough to lift their record on the season to 4-4 while the Wildcats fell to 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

Wildcat Payton Thomas scored the first goal of the game, capitalizing on an early turnover from the Hawks. Despite the initial setback, SUNY New Paltz pushed forward, scoring six of the next seven goals in the period. The Hawks would end the period on top by a score of 6-2. 

SUNY Poly attempted to close the gap in the second period, with goals from Spencer Nixon and Ryan Carroll cutting the lead to as little as two. The Hawks would maintain their composure, continuing to convert on their offensive chances, ultimately building a 10-5 lead going into halftime. 

The Hawks continued their solid play in the third period, netting four goals on 14 shots. Luke Taylor was the only Wildcat to score in the period. At the end of the period, New Paltz would be ahead by a score of 14-6 

The Wildcats registered 22 of their 45 shots in the fourth period. Lyle Beeman, Maycock and Taylor each picked up a goal. The Hawks would net a few goals of their own, ending the game on top by a final score of 16-9.
