MLAX: Poly Picks up First Win of the Season Against the Hawks.

 

Utica, N.Y. - The Suny Poly men's lacrosse team bounced back at home following their loss on the road to start the season. The Wildcats, led by Lyle Beeman's team-high 10 shots, outshot the Hawks 53-17. Four Wildcats tallied multiple goals, while midfielder Luke Taylor and attackman Griffin LaFleur picked up 5 of the teams 6 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Wildcats came out strong in the first period, scoring just 46 seconds into the contest. With additional goals coming from Payton Thomas and Ryan Carroll, the Wildcats would control the majority of the first period, taking a 4-0 lead into the second. 

Hilbert found the back of the net early in the second, and eventually cut the Wildcats lead in half. Poly, however, maintained the pressure toward the end of the period, scoring three goals in the final 3 minutes of the half. The Wildcats would walk into halftime with an 8-3 lead. 

The Wildcats continued their strong offensive work in the third, getting goals from Liam Podszebka and Michael Baker. Poly stood strong on the defensive side as well, allowing the Hawks only two shots on goal. Suny Poly led 11-4 at the end of three periods. 

The Wildcats would finish the game strong, putting 14 shots on goal in the fourth. Each team added a goal to the stat sheet in the period, but it was Suny Poly who would end on top by a score of 12-5. 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Luke Taylor had a team high 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists). 
  • Dillion May led the team with 6 ground balls. 
  • Lyle Beeman topped the stat sheet with 6 shots on goal.
