MLAX: Taylor and Maycock Help Lead Wildcats to a Big Win Over Husson in NAC Play.

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team defeated the Husson University Eagles 20-12 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday at Wildcat Field. The Wildcats dominated the game right from the start, scoring five unanswered goals to start the game. The win brings the Wildcat's record to 7-4 this season with a 5-1 record in NAC play.

 

The Wildcats came out of the gate hot with eight goals in the first quarter. Luke Taylor scored four of his five goals in the first quarter. The Wildcats led 8-2 heading into the second quarter.

 

Husson struggled to keep up in the second quarter. The Wildcats scored five more goals while the Eagles scored just two. The score at halftime was 13-4 Wildcats.

 

In the third, the Wildcats pushed their lead to as many as 16 goals with three minutes left in the quarter.

 

Husson halved that lead down the stretch, but it was not nearly enough to get them close to a comeback. The final score was 20-12 in favor of the Wildcats.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Luke Taylor led all players with seven points for SUNY Poly. He had five goals and a pair of assists. He also caused two turnovers and had five groundballs.  
  • Andrew Maycock had six points on two goals and four assists for SUNY Poly. He also had a CT and a groundball.
  • Griffin LaFleur had a pair of goals and a pair of assists for the Wildcats.
  • Brendan Rie, Payton Thomas, and Michael Baker each scored twice for the 'Cats.
  • Lyle Beeman and Liam Podszebka each had a goal and an assist.
  • Joseph VanZandt earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. He made nine saves on 13 shots faced in 37 minutes of play.
  • Ryan Possidel made 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
  • Four Wildcats had two caused turnovers; Luke Taylor, Joshua Cargen, Ryan Sparacino, and James O'Neil.
  • Dillon May had a team-high six groundballs, went 12-23 on faceoffs, and scored a goal for SUNY Poly.
  • Matt Boynton led the offensive effort for Husson. He had four goals and a pair of assists.
  • Gunnar McAlister had two goals and two assists for the Eagles.
  • Sean Lyne scored three times for Husson.
  • Jacob Larochelle was solid on the faceoff for Husson. He went 21-35 with a game-high 12 groundballs.
