MLAX: Wildcats Earn First NAC Win of the Season 11-6 Over MCLA.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team defeated MCLA 11-6 on Wednesday night to earn their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win of the season. The Wildcat offense was aggressive, recording a season-high 34 shots on goal on 53 shots taken. Six players scored for the Wildcats with three of those players scoring more than once. The Wildcats are now 3-2 this season with a 1-0 record in NAC play.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

MCLA got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Boden Dock, but SUNY Poly responded with three goals to end the first quarter by Lyle Beeman, Michael Baker, and Luke Taylor. In the second quarter, Michael Baker scored another goal for SUNY Poly, and Nathan Haley scored two for MCLA, but SUNY Poly padded their lead with goals by Lyle Beeman and Andrew Maycock to take a 6-3 lead into the locker room at the half.

 

SUNY Poly dominated the third quarter, scoring four goals to MCLA's one. Luke Taylor (2), Griffin LaFleur, and Michael Baker all scored for the Wildcats in the third. In the fourth quarter, Brendan Rie scored a goal for SUNY Poly, while Matthew Wallace and Anthony Andolina scored for MCLA.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Luke Taylor from SUNY Poly scored a game-high three goals, including two goals in the 3rd quarter to extend the Wildcat's lead.
  • Michael Baker contributed three goals to the Wildcat scoring line. He scored a goal in each of the first three quarters.
  • Lyle Beeman had three points for SUNY Poly with a pair of goals and an assist.
  • Steve Sullivan had a game-high four caused turnovers and three groundballs for the Wildcats.
  • Joseph DiBlasi caused three turnovers and had a pair of ground balls for Poly.
  • Andrew Maycock had a goal and an assist for the Wildcats.
  • Dillon May went 13-for-18 in the faceoff circle and had a game-high seven ground balls.
  • Nathan Haley from MCLA had a hat-trick (three goals) and an assist to lead the team.
  • Johnny Hebert from MCLA recorded 4 assists to lead the game in that category.
  • Joseph VanZandt earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. He made three saves in 54 minutes of play.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will travel to Northern Vermont on Friday to take on the NVU-Lyndon Hornets in NAC play. The game is scheduled for 1:30 PM at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.
