MLAX: Wildcats Beaten on the Road by Kean. 

Union, NJ – The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team lost to Kean University 21-4 on Wednesday night at Kean Alumni Stadium in Union, New Jersey. Kean's record improved to 5-0 while SUNY Poly fell to 1-2. Kean took a commanding lead right from the jump and never looked back. The Wildcats are now 1-2. Kean improved to 5-0.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kean University dominated the game from the beginning, scoring seven unanswered goals in the first quarter, with Connor Batjer, Nick Thorne, Dylan Johnson, and Tommy Pellegrino all contributing to the scoreboard. SUNY Poly struggled to keep up, remaining scoreless in the first quarter.

 

SUNY Poly came back strong in the second quarter, scoring three goals thanks to Luke Taylor, Payton Thomas, and Lyle Beeman, but Kean still managed to extend their lead with six goals, including two more by Batjer.

 

In the third quarter, Dane Campbell scored a goal for SUNY Poly, but it was not enough to stop Kean University, who scored three more goals to extend their lead to 15-4.

 

In the fourth quarter, Kean continued to dominate with five more goals, including one by Trevor Foss, bringing the final score to 21-4.

 

Overall, Kean University's offense was led by Connor Batjer and Nick Thorne, who both scored four goals, while Dylan Johnson scored three goals. SUNY Poly's offense struggled to keep up with Kean, with Luke Taylor, Payton Thomas, Lyle Beeman, and Dane Campbell each scoring one goal.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Connor Batjer led Kean's scoring effort with six goals and two assists.
  • Nick Thorne and Dylan Johnson also had impressive games for Kean, scoring four goals and three goals respectively.
  • Kean had a well-rounded offensive attack, with nine different players scoring goals.
  • Lyle Beeman led the Wildcats with two points on a goal and an assist.
  • Luke Taylor, Payton Thomas, and Dane Campbell each had a goal for SUNY Poly.
  • SUNY Poly committed 31 turnovers, compared to 21 for Kean.
  • Joseph VanZandt made 14 saves in goal for SUNY Poly.
  • Kean's Devin Reppert earned the win in goal for Kean. He made five saves.

The Wildcats will travel to Hamburg, N.Y. to take on Hilbert College on Wednesday, March 22nd. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
