MLAX: Wildcats Earn Convincing Win at Alfred State.

ALFRED, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team improved their season record to 4-3 with a 19-7 win over Alfred State on Saturday. The Wildcats scored first in the game rattling off two goals in the first two minutes of play. A big run in the second helped the Wildcats establish a six goal lead with just over four minutes left in the first half. Another big run spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter gave the Wildcats a commanding 17-6 lead with just under 11 minutes to play. SUNY Poly would close out the game to earn their fourth victory of the season. They are now 4-3 overall.

NOTABLES: 

  • The Wildcats got dominating performances in the faceoff circle. Ryan Mead (Churchville, N.Y.) went 11-13 in the circle and Jonathan Sobolewski (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 13-17. All-in-all the Wildcats went 24- 30 in the game on faceoff attempts.

  • Chase LaCava (Jamesville, N.Y.) was the Wildcats point leader in the game. He had six points on five goals and one assist. He also had five ground balls.

  • Charles Rosaschi (Highland Mills, N.Y.) had five points in the game on three goals and two assists. Rosaschi has now scored three or more goals in his last three games spanning the entirety of the Wildcats current three-game winning streak. The five points in Saturday's game is a season-high for the senior.

  • Edward Rosaschi (Highland Mills, N.Y.), Shane Wyman (East Greenbush, N.Y.), and Jacob Elliot (Albany, N.Y.) each scored four points in the game for the Wildcats. Rosaschi scored three goals and had an assist. He also scooped up three ground balls and head a caused turnover. Wyman scored four goals, had three ground balls, and caused a turnover. Elliott scored his points on two goals and two assists. He had a team-high eight ground balls and forced a turnover.

  • Samuel Rubin (Goshen, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. He made four saves, facing just 11 shots. He is now 4-3 this season.

  • For Alfred State Eric Passeck and Joe Johnson each had four points on two goals and two assists.

  • Matt Cobb and Scott Fingar had four ground balls each to lead Alfred State.

  • Matt Cobb was on the losing end of the decision in goal. He allowed 19 goals and made 19 saves in the game. His season record is now 3-6.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will play one more road game before returning to the friendly confines of Wildcat Field. They will play the reigning  NEAC Champion Morrisville State Mustangs on Wednesday April 3rd at Morrisville. The game is scheduled for a 4:30 PM start. It will be the Wildcat's first Conference game of the season.
