MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcat's hosted SUNY Canton on Saturday in their second of five home games over a nine day stretch. The game was a close one throughout. The Wildcats held a one goal lead through the first quarter and were tied with the Kangaroos at the end of the second and third. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were shut out 4-0 in the fourth, ultimately losing 15-11.  

The day was full of positives for the Wildcats who bounced back after a tough loss on Thursday. The team caused 10 turnovers to Cantons five and landed 24 of 41 shots on goal. The Wildcat offensive seemed to click into gear during the game. Nine of the Wildcats 11 goals were assisted goals, up significantly from last game. The area that hurt the Wildcats a bit in the game were groundballs where the Wildcats were outdone 43-26 by the Kangaroos. The Kangaroos also had a slight edge in the circle, winning 18 of the 29 face-offs.

Joey Beyer (Long Beach, N.Y.) had a solid game at attack for the Wildcats. The senior scored three goals and had three assists in the game for a team high six points. Beyer also had two groundballs in the game and played aggressively on both sides of the ball.

Tyler Heldt (Cicero, N.Y.) and Connor Elsenbeck (Clinton, N.Y.) each had four points for the Wildcats. They each had three goals and an assist in the game. Elsenbeck tied a team high with four groundballs and had a highlight worthy behind the back goal in the third quarter. Heldt had two groundballs.

Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats scoring two goals on six shots. Rivie also had two caused turnovers and four groundballs.

On the defensive side of the ball, Chase LaCava (Syracuse, N.Y.) had a team high four caused turnovers, two groundballs, and an assist.  Casey Hennessy (Voorheesville, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers. Robert Cicak (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Ryan Saunders (Greenwich, N.Y.) each had a caused turnover in the game. Andrew Barecca (Pittsford, N.Y.) played all but 1:30 in goal for the Wildcats making eight saves on 23 shots.

For Canton, Josh Yelvington had a game high six goals and had three groundballs. Trenton Yule had two goals, an assist, and two groundballs. Kyle Smith had a game high four assists and had two groundballs. Kody Kocsis earned the win in goal for the Kangaroos. He made 12 saves on 23 shots.

The Wildcats drop to 1-4 on the year while the Kangaroos improve to 2-4. The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday, March 27th when they host local rival Utica College. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
